This is one of the latest listings on iGearList - a Trango 2 Tent in good condition for just $200! That’s half, or less, of what you’d pay retail. So, you save $200 and the seller gets $200 so they can buy something else.
With all this talk about recession, what better way to recession-proof than 1) saving money and 2) making money. This is why buying and selling your used outdoor gear on iGearList just makes good sense! Clean out your garage and sell that gear! It’s spring, after all…
If you are interested in learning more about the Trango 2 Tent, visit Mountain Hardwear - but remember to come back and buy it here!

Mountaingear.com wants your old harness, and they are willing to give you a $25 coupon towards your new one. Now, while I really need people to post things on iGearList, I’d actually prefer that you take those tattered old harnesses and just trade them in. Do it!
What’s really cool is that they are going to use your old climbing harness to do some research. This is from their website:
Why do we want your used harness?
•We want to test your old, worn-out harness
•You can be involved in one of the first large scale harness tests done by the outdoor industry
•Help us gain the knowledge to ensure the safety of all climbers
•You will receive a $25 gift certificate good towards $125 or more of Arc’teryx products at Mountain Gear

Last week they released a bunch of water into the Grand Canyon - a man made flood if you will. The idea is to mimick nature’s way, which should help restore and enhance the habitats within the canyon. The video is intriguing to me, because the whole thing entails a simple press of a button, a flick of a lever.
Floods are natural. You have floods in your life, right? Busy times, times of aquisition, times of loss - all sorts of floods.
It’s coming on spring, so it’s time to let go. Let stuff go. You know what I’m getting at right? With the press of a few buttons, you can set your habitat right, and sell off a bunch of your old outdoor gear on iGearList. Sell your old rock skis, old climbing shoes, extra sleeping bags, and too-small tents. Let it fly.

iGearList welcomes our new blog writer and co-conspirator, “Eco Babe”, a.k.a. WeedBabe (ah, don’t get the wrong idea…she’s an ecologist! She pulls weeds for a living!) Without further adieu, I bring you her first column!

Springtime brings a whole host of loveliness to look at and enjoy. Migratory birds are arriving and beginning to nest. One of my favorites is the red-winged blackbird, whose distinctive up-toned trill (think RRRRRRR in Spanish) calls the ear with its happy sound. These birds live in polygynous colonies called leks, with one male protecting up to 15 females. However, the ladies know what’s going on, because up to 50% of the eggs laid in a particular male’s territory may not belong to him. Visit this great site from Cornell for more information about the Red Winged Blackbird and other feathery friends.
For those of you slogging trail, Spring’s first wildflowers have sprung! Look for the distinctive curved necks and tiny yellow flowers of Fiddlenecks, the glossy leaves and purple flowers of Houndstongue, and perhaps, if you are lucky, the bright orange, satiny sheen of the California poppy. Visit this California Academy of Science website for tons of great information on wildflowers you can enjoy.
While you recreate and train, notice the world around you and enjoy its beauty. If you’re thinking about something fun to do on a weekend, remember that restoring habitat and removing invasive plants isn’t just good for the earth, it’s great excercise, too!

“will a 1990 oldsmobile cutlass ciera make it across country”
So, occasionally I take a peek and see how people came to iGearList. What words did they search by when they found us? This search term has got to take the cake: “will a 1990 oldsmobile cutlass ciera make it across country”.
To the person who was searching for the answer, I have it for you: Y-E-S. Unless you have something against velour, cruise control, and boat-like handling characteristics, you can just let that baby fly.
I used to use my “cutty” as an ORV (Off Road Vehicle). Her clearance was not bad at all, and the heavy engine set upon those narrow tires combined with the front wheel drive created good traction in the snow.
Anyways, enough of this Oldsmobile shenanigan, and you won’t have to suffer it again - I sold the cutty, and I do have a new writer coming on board for the blog. Yes, to add to our ultra runner (Gear Queen), our cyclist (LuLu) and our paddler (that’s me), we’ll now have an ecologist (Eco Babe). Look for posts about plants, birds and outdoor gear for folks who work in natural places. Her first post is coming this week!
Stay tuned!

Have you ever been frustrated by the un-invented? I mean, in an age where you can buy a titanium spork or a carbon fiber bike stem, is it possible to not find something? A gap in the 847598443289895090343* products offered on the web?
And I’m not talking about diamond-encrusted anti-gravity bike tires or anything. Simple things. Things like:
1. Real, Functioning Mud Running Shoes: The kind that don’t mistake a mud run for a creative pottery class. Yeah, I’m 6 inches taller, but holy lead-boot batman! And those deep off-road treads & heel cut-outs? I love a nice leveling stucco job. Wait….add some more!
Now, I know the Bay Area’s clay soil has a lot to do with it, but I’ve experienced the same in Montana & New Mexico. So we aren’t alone. There is a market out there.
Deeper treads equal more packability. The bad kind. Widely spaced narrow cleats would work until you hit that 1 mile of pavement. What we really need is some sort of fancy non-stick rubber. Even some Pam-like spray. Hmmm. I’m feeling an experiment coming on.
2. Mashed Potato Gu: I just don’t understand why gu makers are so stuck on sweet. Doesn’t everyone love mashed potatoes? Now, I do the salted potato thing for long runs all the time, but running & chewing turns me into more of a wheezing potato mouth-fountain. Ugly.
Wouldn’t it also be nice to not have to cook up those potatoes; to have them at-the-ready in a nice, sealed, non-spoiling foil package? Great carbs with a touch of salt & fat. Perfect!
Of course, I’ve tried to make my own mashed potato gu with a little ziplock & a lot of care, but bag failure is brutally high. I’ve also tried those pack-your-own peanut butter/jelly tubes they sell in camping stores, but once past the poor design & cheap materials, I’m still left with a pocketfull of fugitive potato.
So, those are my two current no-have list toppers. Anyone else? Post to comments!

More good stuff appearing on iGearlist, our free classifieds for outdoor gear. Over the weekend, we had some new posts in Women’s Apparel which included a true classic - the North Face Mountain Light shell.
If you owned a North Face mountain jacket, maybe you remember finding that jacket to be a bit heavy and short. I had an “ah -hah” moment when I saw the Mountain Light shell, which featured similar styling but was lighter in weight, allowed for layering, and was a little longer to keep the snow out.
Anyways, you should really check out this person’s posts because they are simply text-book - great photos, detailed descriptions, amazing prices. All the information you need is there. She is also selling a really pretty down jacket! Check it out!

On the heals of Levi Leipheimer taking the lead in the Tour of California after Stage 3 watching a great field of Pro Tour riders in the states, we are reminded that the Amaury Sports Organization (ASO), organizers of the major grand tours, have banned Levi’s Team Astana from competing in this year’s Tour de France due to Astana. As a result, Levi will not be able to compete in this year’s tour. This is a huge injustice - as a fan, we want to see the best riders compete.
I agree that cycling needs to crack down on doping; however, punishing a team for the actions of a few riders that are no longer with the team is wrong.
Join the effort in petitioning the ASO to reinstate team Astana at Let Levi Ride (it takes only a minute).
